Collective Worship

Collective Worship is an important part of life at St John’s (CE) Academy.

Worship is led daily by the Principal, Vice Principal or other teachers, with a special assembly from Rev Paul Webb or Stephen Hannam the vicars at St John's Church.  Each half term children from Years 2 to Year 6 are invited to apply for the position of Worship Leader. Their duties include, welcoming worshipers into the hall daily, helping tell stories, holding artefacts and leading the opening prayer when we light the candle to show that Jesus is here with us. In addition, they evaluate one worship each week.

As part of daily worship all classes support setting the alter table by bringing an item along with their class candle to embed a greater sense of community and belonging.

We also go to Church for a service at least once a term, usually for festivals such as Harvest, Easter and Christmas.  We invite parents, family members and the church congregation to share these.

We also like to have acts of Collective Worship to celebrate special days at school.
